Wave of Hope | Safe spaces that restore hope and strengthen psychological wellbeing in the Gaza Strip

Amid the ongoing humanitarian and psychological challenges faced by children and young people in the Gaza Strip, and as part of its efforts to strengthen mental health, wellbeing and psychosocial support, Be Human held an open sports day entitled "Wave of Hope". The initiative brought together sport, recreation, meditation and artistic expression, with the aim of providing safe and supportive spaces where participants could interact positively, express their feelings and regain moments of joy and human connection.

The activity included a community football tournament for children affected by the war, with teams representing six camps in the Gaza Strip. The neighbourhood pitches became spaces for interaction and cheering, strengthening the values of cooperation, sportsmanship, teamwork and belonging.

The day also featured activities for young men and women who are university graduates and volunteers in youth forums and teams. These included meditation and relaxation sessions on the beach, which gave them space for calm and connection and helped ease the psychological pressures of the current circumstances, alongside a volleyball tournament and recreational and interactive activities that encouraged participation and social connection.

The "Wave of Hope" programme also included musical performances accompanied by the oud and group singing, in an atmosphere that allowed participants to express themselves and strengthened feelings of solidarity and connection, as well as a varied selection of purposeful sports and recreational games.

Through this activity, the foundation sought to:

Provide safe and supportive spaces for children and young people affected by the war.

Help ease psychological pressures and strengthen psychosocial wellbeing.

Encourage youth participation and positive expression through sport and the arts.

Embed the values of cooperation, solidarity, belonging and team spirit.

Strengthen the ability of children and young people to adapt positively and stay connected amid difficult humanitarian conditions.

At Be Human, we believe that the right to play, recreation, participation and psychosocial support is not a luxury but an essential part of protecting children and young people, safeguarding their dignity and promoting their wellbeing.

Through "Wave of Hope", we continue our commitment to creating humane spaces that give children and young people opportunities to connect, express themselves and take part, affirming that hope and solidarity remain present even in the hardest of circumstances.

Together, we create spaces for hope and give joy a chance to endure.
